FDA recalls more cinnamon brands due to elevated levels of lead |

US authorities have expanded a recall of ground cinnamon due to elevated lead levels, with 16 brands now affected. Consumers are urged to discard these products immediately to avoid potential long-term health risks, especially for children. The FDA advises consulting a doctor if lead exposure is suspected, as symptoms may not be immediately apparent.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded a recall of cinnamon after detecting elevated levels of lead in several brands. On October 10, the federal agency added two more brands of ground cinnamon to the recall alert as part of its ongoing investigation. The alert was issued after the FDA collected samples of these products at a retail establishment and found unsafe amounts of lead in them. So far, 16 brands of cinnamon products have been recalled. Consumers are asked to throw away these products and not buy them if they find them in the market.

Consuming these products could contribute to elevated levels of lead in the blood. Long-term exposure (months to years) to lead can result in adverse health effects. Children as more vulnerable to the dangerous effects. It can result in neurological problems such as learning disabilities, behavior difficulties, and lowered IQ.The FDA has advised consumers to stop using and dispose the products in the list below. “Consumers should not eat, sell, or serve ground cinnamon products listed in the table above and should discard them. These products have a long shelf life. Consumers should check their homes and discard these products,” the agency said in a release.

It is important to consult a doctor if there’s suspicion that someone has been exposed to elevated levels of lead. Most people have no obvious immediate symptoms of lead exposure.
