Emraan Hashmi slams Bollywood’s ‘crab mentality’: 'No one is truly happy about someone else's success'
Emraan Hashmi highlighted Bollywood’s “crab mentality,” where colleagues often undermine each other and criticize successes. He urged focusing on one’s own work instead of others’ achievements. Despite industry negativity, he acknowledged support and emphasized that perseverance and reinvention are key to sustaining a successful career in films.

Emraan Hashmi recently spoke candidly about the prevailing negativity within the film industry. He highlighted the common issue of a lack of unity and support among colleagues, noting that many in Bollywood tend to undermine each other and diminish others’ achievements.
Lack of Unity and Support in Bollywood
In a n interview with Siddharth Kanan, Emraan said, “Kabhi kabhi ye sunne ko aata hai ki industry ek nahi hai, they try to pull each other down. Of course, completely. I have sensed it.”
‘Crab Mentality’ in the Industry
He further added, “I can’t say who does it, how they do it, or what their methods of manipulation are. But such things do happen. There is a crab mentality in this industry. You can hear it in their conversations, that no one is truly happy about someone else’s success.”
Criticism Over Others’ Success
The actor additionally spoke out against how the industry often criticizes the doing of others. He said, “If someone’s film is successful, people say, ‘Oh, the numbers are fudged.’ These days, credibility has become an issue. So, people aren’t genuinely happy about each other’s success. I don’t understand why. Why do you focus so much on others’ success or failure? Focus on your own work. That’s exactly why your films aren’t working, because you’re too busy looking at your peers”.
Personal Experience with Industry Negativity
When questioned about whether he had experienced attempts to be pulled down, the actor replied, “You don’t experience this first hand but it could be functioning at the back. Koi aapko saamne se aake ye nahi bolega. But I would also say that the industry is supportive as I didn’t stop getting work after some of my films didn’t work well.”
Upcoming Project
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Emraan is set to appear in ‘Ground Zero’, portraying BSF Deputy Commandant Narendra Nath Dube. Directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, the film is scheduled for release on April 25.
