Coldplay Chris Martin Opens Up About Depression In Candid Video |

Coldplay co-founder and singer-songwriter Chris Martin recently got candid and opened up about his struggle with depression and mental health issues. He shared a video online about his battle as well as how the singer-songwriter coped with these issues.
Heartfelt Confession
Recorded backstage after the band’s set in Hong Kong, the video was shared on Coldplay’s main account. It started with an intorductory line, “Hi, this is Chris from the band Coldplay. We’re in Hong Kong… I’ve noticed that some people lately, including myself, are struggling a little bit with depression.”
Continuing, he also added that he wanted to share his way of dealing with depression: ‘So I wanted to talk to you about some things that are helping me on tour and in life in general, in the hope that they can help you as well.’
Tips From Chris Martin To Deal with Depression
Chris Martin shared a couple of tips from his go-to list of ways to deal with depression.
Free-Form Writing
The first tip he shared was to start doing ‘free-form writing’. Basically, all you have to do is spend 12 minutes journaling about anything from your thoughts and worries to what all happened in your day. After you finish, you either throw the sheet away or burn it, whichever suits you best.
Transcendental Meditation
The next tip the Coldplay singer mentioned was ‘transcendental meditation’. He shared a website called ‘Transcendental Meditation Website’, where fans can learn more about the practice and understand how to do it on their own too. He shared that it is “a simple mental technique, practised silently with the eyes closed, sitting in any comfortable position that works to provide more mental balance and clarity.”
The Costello Method
He also shared more about an exercise method called proprioception and also using the Costello Method, which was created by Jim Costello.
The Oxygen Advantage
He also cited inspiration from a book titled ‘The Oxygen Advantage’ that helped him learn more about effective breathing tips. The singer-songwriter, responsible for hits like ‘Fix You’, ‘Hymn for the Weekend’, and ‘Viva La Vida’, recommended fans read the book.
Music and Movies as a Way of Coping
Another thing that the Coldplay singer emphasised was the importance of music and movies in his life. He shared that watching movies like ‘Sing Sing’ and listening to upbeat artists like Chloe Qisha helps him stay ‘grounded and happy’.
‘These are some of the things that help me stay grateful and happy to be alive.’
Celebrities like Rita Ora and Chloe Qisha Shower Support
The video, shared on their online platform, received a lot of love, with celebrities like Rita Ora and Chloe Qisha warmly reacting to the post. Qisha as well as Jim Costello also shared the video on their platforms. Costello shared, ‘Chris, thank you for sharing so openly about your experience—and for highlighting the tools that have supported you along the way.’
In the post he also shared, ‘I’m grateful for the kind of conversation this opens up: less shame, more nuance, and a gentler way of meeting ourselves in the hard moments. Grateful for all you do.’
Coldplay Tour
Currently, Coldplay is on tour and is all set to play in different venues across the world, like South Korea, Geneva, London, and many more.
