‘Clean’ ECG but dead three days later: Lessons from a Nagpur neurosurgeon’s demise

Neurosurgeon Dr Chandrashekhar Pakhmode ran 2 hospitals in Nagpur with a combined capacity of nearly 200 beds. Renowned in the region, he sometimes performed 8 to 9 surgeries daily in addition to patient consultations, often running up to over 100 cases a day.
His workday started at 5 am, and he examined patients sometimes as early as 6 am. Breakfast was scheduled for 8 am, and then the neurosurgeon carried out scheduled surgeries till 4 pm. In the evening, after a short break, he had out-patient department (OPD) consultations that could stretch to midnight.
