Baby Vox reunite! K-Pop girl group perform together after 23 years; Hit the stage for first standalone concert

The iconic girl group Baby Vox made a spectacular return to the stage with their second domestic solo concert ‘New Breath’, held on September 26 at Kyung Hee University’s Peace Auditorium in Seoul. Hankook Ilbo reported that the event marked the group’s first standalone concert at the same venue since 2002, recreating a time capsule for fans who have matured alongside their idols.

A long-awaited reunion

Baby Vox, who debuted in 1997, gained fame with hits like ‘Get Up’ and ‘Killer’ before halting activities after their seventh album ‘Ride West’ in 2004. Their unexpected reunion gained momentum after all five members-Kim E-Z, Lee Hee-jin, Shim Eun-jin, Kan Mi-yeon, and Yoon Eun-hye-appeared at the ‘2024 KBS Song Festival Global Special’, a performance that attracted over 10 million views on YouTube. Riding that wave, the members decided to return with a full concert nearly 23 years later.

Nostalgia and heartfelt stages

Kicking off with their legendary hit ‘Get Up’, Baby Vox electrified the hall with charisma and high energy, proving that time had not diminished their appeal. Fans in their 40s and 50s waved the group’s signature pink light sticks, singing along to every lyric. Shim Eun-jin and Lee Hee-jin delivered an emotional rendition of the ballad ‘Missing You’ before breaking into tears. Kan Mi-yeon expressed gratitude, saying, “A concert after 23 years feels like a dream. Thank you for giving us this chance.” The group also revisited their 2004 songs ‘Xcstasy’ and ‘Play’, reimagined with fresh arrangements, surprising long-time fans. Each member shone in solo stages, from Shim Eun-jin’s ‘Oopsy’ to Yoon Eun-hye’s ‘UP’. Their performance blended 1990s-style ballad set designs, complete with fog effects, evoking deep nostalgia.

A promise for the future

Leader Kim E-Z reflected on their unexpected resurgence, vowing, “We’ll create another era together-let’s walk into our 40s and 50s side by side.” Shim Eun-jin emphasized the concert’s title ‘New Breath’, sharing hopes to combine past memories with a new beginning. As the group closed with ‘Ya Ya Ya’ and ‘Coincidence’, the audience sang in unison, echoing the emotions of an unforgettable night.
