Babil Khan wants to bring the Best Actor Oscar to India: ‘What if I fail because Irrfan Khan was so great?’

Babil Khan, son of the legendary actor Irrfan Khan, is known for maintaining a versatile career through unique roles. Babil once struggled to express his aspirations, fearing the inevitable comparisons with his celebrated father.
Recollecting that difficult phase, Babil told PTI, “Because father and son have this ego thing… what if I fail because he was so great? But I finally admitted it. And he was terrified for me because he knew how he had brought me up. I was a very sensitive child.”
Babil revealed that his artistic passions extend beyond the screen. He described himself as a very shy singer and admitted that he wants to explore singing further.

The Qala actor remains open to life’s evolving possibilities. “Sometimes, we’ve already decided what we want to do in life. I’m just 26, and I don’t want to put pressure on myself by saying that I’ll do this for the rest of my life… (But) I want to bring the Best Actor Oscar trophy to India. I want to prove myself as an actor. Then I’d be able to take a step back from acting and explore music,” he added.
Babil also spoke about his father’s demise in 2020. “He beat his cancer, and then he left… He had to leave this world because chemo had destroyed his body. The cancer cells were gone, but there was no immune system left. Just a simple infection took his life,” he further shared.

He expressed how Irrfan’s passing felt like a collective loss, not just a personal one. He recalled the overwhelming crowd during the funeral and how deeply people connected with his father’s legacy. Moved by their grief, he felt a strong sense of responsibility to honour the personal memories he held with his baba.
Babil is set to appear in the upcoming OTT film Logout, premiering on April 18.
