Arun Vijay on ‘Vanangaan’ failure, praises Bala, stresses team effort in film's commercial hit
Arun Vijay reflects on the challenges faced by director Bala’s ‘Vanangaan’, which fell short at the box office during the fiercely competitive Pongal 2025 season. However, he’s proud of the film’s artistic integrity and his own performance, appreciating the warm feedback from fans and the positive reception following its digital release.

Arun Vijay, who recently starred in Dhanush’s ‘Idli Kadai’, admitted in a recent interview that director Bala‘s ‘Vanangaan’ did not perform as well as expected at the box office. He said that the Pongal 2025 release period was the reason for this, and that it affected the film’s commercial potential. A film like ‘Mission: Chapter 1’, released in 2024, was successful because it came between two big hits; but ‘Vanangaan’ is said to have not achieved the expected commercial success in that regard.

Arun Vijay praises director Bala

However, Arun Vijay has full confidence in the quality of the film. “I am satisfied that I have done a good film (‘Vanangaan’) with a director (Bala) I really liked,” he said in his chat with Behindwoods. He said that fans have greatly appreciated his performance and character, and the digital premiere has been well-received.

Commercial success is a team effort, says Arun Vijay

Arun Vijay then explained that it is an old understanding in the military that a single actor cannot assume full commercial responsibility in a film. He noted that a film becomes a complete success only as a result of the collective efforts of many people, including the production company and the promotion team. “One artist alone cannot carry everything,” said Arun Vijay.

Arun Vijay looks ahead to ‘Retta Thala

Arun Vijay recently played the antagonist in ‘Idli Kadai’, and his role in Dhanush’s directorial received great praise from fans and critics. Meanwhile, Arun Vijay is looking forward to the release of ‘Retta Thala’, in which he plays a dual role. Maan Karate director Kris Thirukumaran’s comeback film stars actress Siddhi Idnani as the lead heroine. Fans are eagerly waiting for Arun Vijay’s next release.
