AR Murugadoss reveals an untold 'Sarkar' story, A travel film, Vijay as a Sri Lankan refugee

A.R. Murugadoss-Vijay duo has earned a unique place in Tamil cinema. Despite only having three films, ‘Thuppakki,’ ‘Kaththi,’ and ‘Sarkar,’ they have been huge successes both at the box office and critically. Especially with ‘Thuppakki’, it created history by becoming the first Vijay film to cross the 100 crore mark. ‘Kaththi’ continued to occupy a place in the hearts of the fans with its story centered around political and social issues. After these successes, Murugadoss was planning to direct a different story that would show Vijay from a completely new angle.

A travel story with Vijay

In a YouTube chat with Gopinath, AR Murugadoss shared some untold stories about ‘Sarkar’. According to AR Murugadoss, the director planned a travel story for his third film with Vijay, and the actor will appear in a lungi and a shirt for the entire film. It is an action-travel film without any commercial elements and no fight scenes. He shared that there were plans to film it in several countries, including India, Thailand, and Canada, focusing on a Sri Lankan refugee. He further added that the film will appeal to audiences as a story that combines emotions and travel, avoiding the usual mass hero trope.

Vijay preferred a political story

But at that time, Vijay was interested in political stories, so ‘Sarkar’ was made instead. After this news came out, fans said, “How wonderful it would have been if Thalapathy had acted in a story like this!” Because there is a lot of hope that Murugadoss, who made Vijay look completely different in the films ‘Thuppakki’ and ‘Kaththi,’ would have shown him in another unique form in this travel story.Vijay and Murugadoss were supposed to reunite after ‘Sarkar’, but the project did not materialize due to some reasons. It was only after that that the opportunity went to Nelson, who directed ‘Beast’ with Vijay.
