As Jagan’s convoy snaked through the bustling streets, thronged by thousands of eager supporters, one young girl’s reaction stood out. Overcome with emotion upon catching a glimpse of her idol, she began calling out “Jagan Anna” while struggling to reach him through the crowd.
Moved by her enthusiasm, Jagan’s convoy came to a stop. Without a moment’s hesitation, he beckoned her over, kissed her forehead, and then, in a moment of pure connection, took a selfie with the tearful fan.
The girl, visibly overwhelmed, embraced him tightly, a gesture that captured the hearts of viewers far beyond the streets of Vijayawada.
Jagan criticises government over farmers’ struggles
During his visit to the Mirchi Yard in Guntur, Jagan Mohan Reddy criticised the TDP-led government, saying farmers were suffering because they were not getting fair prices for their crops. Speaking to the media, he claimed that since the new government took over, farmers had been deprived of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and were struggling to find buyers for their produce.
He stated, “Take any crop, whether black gram, green gram, tomato or cotton, farmers are not getting the MSP.”
Jagan urged chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to visit the Mirchi Yard and take steps to help farmers. He pointed out that the price of chillies had dropped sharply from Rs 27,000 to Rs 8,000 per quintal, and the yield per acre had also fallen compared to the previous year. Rising farming costs, he added, were making things worse for tenant farmers.
He mentioned that the same problems were affecting farmers in Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Kurnool, and Anantapuram districts. Accusing the government of neglecting farmers, he said, “Despite such a grave situation, there is no review from the government side, and the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister have no concern for farmers, leaving them in the lurch. Chandrababu Naidu and his coalition government have not only let down the farmers but also stopped all the revolutionary reforms brought in by the YSRCP government.”
Jagan explained that when his party was in power, MSP was provided for 24 crops, including chillies, turmeric, and onions. “If the farmers were not getting MSP, our government had provided it, and RBKs were used as an anchor point for farmers. We made the best use of technology to map the prices of commodities across the state through the CM app. Now while chilli farmers are facing hardships, Chandrababu Naidu is least bothered,” he alleged.
He also pointed out that during the YSRCP government, officials helped farmers when their crops were affected by pests. “Integrated farm labs were there for quality control, during our term, chilli farmers got the maximum price. The present government has reversed many of our decisions, including crop insurance,” he added.
Jagan claimed that cotton farmers were now earning less than Rs 7,000, while under his government, they received Rs 10,000. Tomato farmers, too, were struggling to get fair prices. He urged Chandrababu Naidu to take action and support the farmers.
