Work on city’s sewerage line to end by May 31: Govt to HC | Goa News

Panaji: Advocate general Devidas Pangam on Wednesday submitted to the high court that the work on the 12m stretch of the new sewerage network on the Taad Maad road to STP Tonca is yet to be completed. This stretch is delicate and requires precautions to avoid damage to the parallel sewerage line and the gas pipeline. It will be completed by May 31, he said.
Out of the 200m main trunk sewerage line from Taad Maad temple to STP Tonca, constructed by Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) through Bagkiya Constructions Pvt Limited, 188m were successfully laid. The remaining 12m will be completed by May 31; govt submitted to the HC.
This remaining 12m involves crossing the existing sewerage line and constructing two manhole chambers due to a necessary alignment change, which is yet to be completed. Govt submitted to the HC that the old sewerage line was “causing obstructions, making the alignment crucial.”
“Given the proximity to the existing sewerage and gas line, extreme caution is required, as any damage could lead to a major disruption of the entire sewage flow from Panaji as well as the gas supply,” govt said.
The exact alignment of the old sewerage line is not fully documented, further complicating the excavation process. Due to the depth of excavation reaching 12m, utmost safety measures are essential, making it infeasible to continue work during the night. To address groundwater challenges, 78 bore pumps have been deployed for continuous dewatering,” govt said.
Govt stated that the smart road development works at Rua de Ourem, including road upgrades and utility installations, haven’t been taken up yet. The PWD sewerage department proposed the installation of a raw sewage pumping line from the pumping station near Mala lake to the old secretariat along Rua de Ourem, which requires digging, but they are yet to commence work on the

pumping line.
