The 36-year-old Tamim felt chest discomfort while appearing for Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday. He was taken to a hospital immediately and is being monitored.
According to Razeeb Hasan, the medical director at the healthcare facility where Tamim is being treated, he arrived at the hospital in a serious condition and underwent a surgical procedure to insert stents for clearing a blocked artery.
Tamim’s family is beside him as he recovers in the hospital.
He scored over 15,000 international runs for Bangladesh, scoring centuries in all three formats — a feat that no other Bangladesh player has accomplished to date.
