“Will be another failure”: Mitch Marner’s future with the Leafs in doubt as former player and fans raise concerns

Mitch Marner, one of the most talented and popular players of the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been in the news lately. Back in 2019, Mitch Marner had signed a six year contract with the team that was valued at a whopping $65.358 million. The contract is soon coming to an end but things have been a bit confusing.
Should Toronto Maple Leafs Extend Their Contract With Mitch Marner? Former Player And Fans Weigh In
As per Elliotte Friedman, Mitch Marner refused to waive his No Trade Clause and chose to remain in the team and blocked Mikko Ranaten from joining the Leafs. But now, the Toronto Maple Leafs are being warned by their former player turned NHL analyst, Jay Rosehill.
In a new episode of the podcast “Leafs Morning Take”, Jay Rosehill said, “It’s too dangerous to extend Mitch Marner. And it’s not even against Mitch Marner personally…every time they show everything. They win Hart trophies, and they win Rocket Richards, and…they come up big.”
Jay Rosehill added, “But when the going gets hard, and when it’s time to get the good stuff done, they have over and over and over and over again disappointed…If they don’t get it done, if they get bounced in the first round, again, it’s going to be pretty hard to justify, right?”
Fans seem to agree with this take. A fan commented, “Yes! If they sign JT or Marner before the playoffs, it’s another failure. If they flame out again, I’d gladly trade MM for Bennett and another bona fide M6 player at the same $. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.”
Another fan wrote, “Rosie they paid a bunch of guys with skill ( but nothing else ) before they won anything ! The core four are all the same ! All skill no grit , no passion, no heart , no will to win, no will do what it takes to win, these guys are all fine with being bounced in the first round”.
Another fan wrote, “No sh*t … anything other than that is just incompetent”. While the decision is yet to be taken regarding Mitch Marner, the team recently lost to the Florida Panthers and are now gearing up for a match against the Ottawa Senators.
