WhatsApp may have just fixed the feature that made WhatsApp video calls dangerous and led to ‘nude scams’

WhatsApp is developing a privacy-focused feature that will allow users to disable their camera before accepting video calls, according to a recent discovery in the app’s beta code. Currently, when receiving a video call on WhatsApp, users’ front cameras activate automatically upon call receipt, forcing them to appear on camera before having the option to disable it. The upcoming change will introduce a “Turn off your video” button during incoming calls and an “Accept without video” prompt, enabling users to answer calls with their cameras disabled from the start.
The feature was discovered by Android Authority in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.7.3 for Android devices. Screenshots shared by the publication show the new interface elements that give users camera control options before accepting calls.
