WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis is once again in the headlines for the wrong reasons, just weeks before his highly anticipated exhibition bout with Jake Paul. A civil lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County accuses Davis of violently attacking a woman at a Miami strip club. The allegations, surfacing less than two weeks before the November 14 fight, have cast a shadow over one of boxing’s most talked-about events. Following the lawsuit, Davis’ name came under scrutiny, creating controversy.

According to court documents filed on October 30, Davis’ ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, accused the boxer of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The complaint states that the alleged attack occurred in the early hours of October 27 at Tootsie’s Cabaret, a well-known gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens, where Rossel worked as a VIP cocktail server.Rossel claims Davis “grabbed, choked, and dragged” her from an upstairs VIP area through the club’s stairwell, kitchen, and out into the parking garage before repeatedly hitting her in the back of the head. The lawsuit further alleges that Davis had previously assaulted her on at least four occasions and twice threatened to kill her. Her lawyers, Richard C. Wolfe and Jeff Chukwuma, confirmed that a police report was filed with the Miami Gardens Police Department earlier this week. They also stated that Rossel is now receiving therapy for PTSD, anxiety, and fear, claiming she no longer feels safe living alone.Davis’ trainer, Calvin Ford, told USA Today he was blindsided by the lawsuit and dismissed the accusations, calling them “nonsense.” He added, “He’s doing great. Everything’s good. That’s why we’re trying to find out what’s going on.” Davis, who owns a home in Florida, has been training there for the upcoming bout. This marks yet another troubling episode for the 30-year-old boxer. Davis has faced multiple legal issues in recent years, including domestic violence allegations and a 2023 hit-and-run conviction that resulted in house arrest and probation.
