Villagers protest relocation of 100-year-old post office near Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: Villagers of Uddanapalli in Krishnagiri district on Thursday closed their shops and protested the relocation of a century-old post office from their village to another village. The post office was relocated to Krishnapuram village last week, shocking the residents. “The post office was shifted to another village without any prior notification, leading to opposition from the villagers,” said M Umesh Kumar, a resident. The villagers had complained to the authorities against the relocation of the post office. However, they said they had not received a satisfactory explanation on why it had been shifted to Krishnapuram village, which lacked essential facilities such as a bus stop. The villagers urged the central govt to reinstate the post office at Uddanapalli. The protesters erected a tent at the Uddanapalli bus stand and shouted slogans.
