VAO arrested for taking bribe near Tirupur | Chennai News
COIMBATORE: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths in Tirupur district arrested a village administrative officer on Monday for demanding and accepting a bribe from a man for a patta name transfer.Krishnasamy, 33, Gandhi Nagar near Karadivavi village in Palladam applied for a patta name transfer for his father-in-law’s land at Arivolinagar near Vadugapalayam village. He approached Vadugapalayam VAO Muthulakshmi, 44. She demanded Rs 30,000 as a bribe for approving his name transfer application. Krishnasamy initially gave her Rs 10,000 as a bribe, but the VAO demanded the remaining Rs 20,000 to approve the name transfer.Unwilling to pay the additional money, Krishnasamy lodged a complaint with DVAC officials on Monday. The officials set a trap by providing Krishnasamy with chemically laced currency notes. Krishnasamy visited the VAO’s house and handed over the money to her.DVAC officials, who were waiting nearby, caught Muthulakshmi red-handed and arrested her. She was remanded in judicial custody.
