Upset Elon Musk on Federal bureaucracy: I thought there were problems, but …

Elon Musk has recently opened up about the difficulty he faced while reducing the size of the federal government. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO said that it was far more difficult than he had anticipated. He also criticised the backlash against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that he once led. Speaking from SpaceX’s South Texas test site during a Starship flight event, the tech billionaire shared his dissapointment about people unfairly blaming DOGE for all of the Trump administration’s issues. This comes after Musk scaled back his role with the government agency, cutting down the days he spends in Washington DC, after Tesla suffered significant losses and he became a polarising figure in his position as President Trump’s close ally.
What Elon Musk said about Federal bureaucracy
In an interview with the Washington Post, Musk said: “The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realized. I thought there were problems, but it sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in D.C., to say the least.”Noting the severe repercussions over DOGE cuts, Musk said: “DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything. So, like, something bad would happen anywhere, and we would get blamed for it even if we had nothing to do with it.”“People were burning Teslas. Why would you do that? That’s really uncool,” Musk added expressing his concern over the reputational hit his companies took at that time.No longer a regular at the White House, Musk took part in a series of media interviews this week from SpaceX headquarters, where he talked about his return to oversee the latest Starship test flight while reflecting on his stint running DOGE.In a separate CBS News interview, Musk said he did not support President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” tax-cut package. He expressed disappointment that the legislation “increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it,” arguing that it undercuts the efforts of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team.
