Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs has officially made his status among the NFL’s best official, Pro Football Focus listing him as the second-best offensive tackle to enter the 2025 season. The quietly built 26-year-old former first-round pick has established himself over the last four seasons with a dominant résumé that continues to anchor the Buccaneers’ offensive line with unparalleled consistency and effectiveness. Although frequently flying under the national radar, the pass-blocking statistics of Wirfs speak volumes about the excellence that cannot be overlooked.

Tristan Wirfs’ dominance recognized as one of the greatest NFL offensive linemen

This off-season, Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked Tristan Wirfs at No. 2 among the NFL’s top offensive tackles, pointing to his excellent 2024 season. PFF credited Tristan Wirfs with zero sacks and only a 1.9% pressure rate on pass plays—the lowest among all tackles. That spread was one percentage point higher than the next-best left tackle, an impressive margin in a stat category that usually is closely contested. Only the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jordan Mailata ranked above Wirfs, as he narrowly beat out Rashawn Slater (Los Angeles Chargers), Trent Williams (San Francisco 49ers), and Lane Johnson (Philadelphia Eagles), among others. “There has been no better pass-blocking offensive tackle in the NFL in recent years than Wirfs. Not only did he permit zero sacks in 2024, but he also allowed pressure on just 1.9% of pass plays — the best rate among all offensive tackles. The gap between Wirfs and the second-place left tackle in pressure rate allowed—1 percentage point — is the equivalent of the gap between the second- and sixth-ranked left tackles,” PFF wrote in its rankings.Tristan Wirfs’ greatness has assisted both Tom Brady in his last years and now Baker Mayfield, who had one of the best years of his life in 2024 while Wirfs protected his blindside. When Tampa Bay’s offense became top-notch in the previous year, Wirfs was at the epicenter of its triumph— even though he didn’t get the glory that quarterbacks and wide receivers usually do. In spite of the Bucs receiving less coverage than other big-market franchises, Wirfs’ play has made both analysts and fans take notice. His seamless transition from right tackle to left tackle was impressive, and his dominance in both run blocking and pass protection has raised the bar for offensive linemen in the current NFL.Also read: Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign heaviest NFL player Desmond Watson to develop as key player beyond tacklingAs the NFL’s 2025 season dawns, Tristan Wirfs is not just the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ most irreplaceable offensive lineman but also one of the very best at his position in the league. With his world-class pass-blocking skillset, toughness, and intangibles as a leader, Wirfs is going to keep bringing the thunder in Tampa Bay’s bid for long-term success — and now the rest of the NFL is finally recognizing him properly.
