Tragic Incident: Two Young Cousins Buried Alive in Madhya Pradesh Sand Pile | Indore News

INDORE: Two five-year-old boys playing at an NHAI plant in Shahpur of Burhanpur were accidentally buried alive under a heap of manufactured sand when a dumper unloaded it in the area on Monday. The tragic mishap came to light only in the evening when their toys were found near the dump, prompting a search.Burhanpur SP Devendra Patidar said, “The incident took place at the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) plant in Mordadkala village in Shahpur around 3:00 pm, and the bodies were recovered with the help of a JCB machine around 6:30 pm.” According to Shahpur police and local sources, the children belonged to families of migrant labourers who arrived from Jhabua to work at the Kalyan Tools plant site.Shahpur police station in-charge Akhilesh Mishra said the incident occurred in the afternoon, but no one initially realised the children were missing, as it was assumed they may have gone to a nearby house in the village. Around 3:30 pm, when the family noticed that they were missing, they started looking for them and found the boys’ toys near the heap. A frantic search followed, and their bodies were eventually found buried under the dust.The deceased were identified as Kartik, son of Ritesh Garwal, and Mayank, son of Peter Garwal—both residents of Hatya Deli, Joshli Falia, Thandla police station, in Jhabua district. Shahpur police station in-charge Akhilesh Mishra said, “Several trucks unloaded material at the site, so it is still under investigation which specific truck was involved in the accident. The family has provided one truck number, and we are currently verifying it.”“After lunch, the children came back to the room and were playing nearby. They were playing on the ground while their cousins were around. Suddenly, the dumper unloaded dust from above. We started looking for them around 3:30 pm and kept searching until 6:30 pm. Then we saw their toys near the gravel heap, which raised suspicion. First, we found my son’s body, and then the body of my brother’s son,” said Peter.“This happened due to the company’s negligence. The driver should be held accountable. We also demand compensation from the company for this loss,” he added. The bodies were handed over to the family members after a post-mortem examination at the district hospital on Wednesday. The police are investigating the circumstances around the dumping operation and whether any negligence led to the tragedy.
