Dwayne Wade, the NBA legend, might have retired from the league back in 2019 but he is still considered to be one of the most popular and talented athletes in the world. When in January 2025, Dwayne Wade revealed he had to go through surgery to remove any cancer cells from his body, it sent shockwaves across the league and his fans. Recently, Dwayne Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, reflected on the journey that the NBA legend had.

Last month, Dwayne Wade’s wife, famous actress Gabrielle Union, appeared on The View to speak about her husband. She spoke about how she coped up with her husband’s cancer journey and what their family had to go through.
Gabrielle Union said, “You hear cancer, and you’re paralyzed. Because you think of the absolute worst-case scenario. I have so many friends who are cancer survivors. I didn’t go there. I went to, ‘He’s gone.”
Gabrielle Union also spoke about how Dwayne Wade was “vulnerable” since he had to undergo a major surgery to remove a major portion of his kidney.
The famous actress added, “That level of vulnerability, to go through removal of a good chunk of his kidney and the healing that involved, he needed us to be OK with his vulnerability”
The NBA legend, Dwayne Wade, had also spoken about feeling “weak” in front of his family members who have always seen him as a “strong” figure. The world champion has also spoken about the fact that he had “fears” about not being “strong” enough in front of his wife and children.
Fortunately, everything worked out for the NBA legend, and his surgery was successful. Dwayne Wade has also revealed that when his kidney was later tested after being operated on and removed from his body, it tested positive for Stage 1 cancer.
Last month, Gabrielle Union, had also updated their fans about the NBA legend’s health and revealed that he is completely cancer free.
At the moment, Dwayne Wade is on different shows, talking about the battle he faced so that more people become aware of their health issues.
