Sunjay Kapur property row: Not mentioned in will, mother Rani Kapur joins forces with Karisma Kapoor | Delhi News
NEW DELHI: The family feud over industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000-crore estate got messier on Monday after his mother Rani Kapur joined forces with his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor in questioning the veracity of his will.Rani submitted before Justice Jyoti Singh of Delhi high court that instead of grieving Sunjay’s death after accidentally swallowing a bee while playing polo in the UK on June 12, his wife Priya did everything to take control of his assets, including allegedly “massive concealment”.Her counsel claimed she was never informed about her son’s will, pointing out that it was strange that the document does not even mention her despite Sunjay publicly acknowledging that he got everything from her.“He (Sunjay) would have at least mentioned in the will that he did not want to give anything to his mother,” Rani’s lawyer Vaibhav Gaggar said. “There is not even a whisper about the mother in the will. She has no ownership in the company built by her husband, which was exclusively left to her.”According to the petition, Sunjay and Priya had a rocky marriage since May 2023, marked by constant fights. “It is highly unlikely that Sunjay would make Priya the sole beneficiary of his personal estate,” Rani’s lawyer said, also pointing out that the deceased had “a deep bond with and equal affection for all his children, his mother, and other members of the Kapur family”.Priya also stands accused of omitting assets belonging to the deceased in the list submitted to court, including paintings, bank balances, mutual funds, life insurance, rental income, and watches.Justice Singh will next hear the case on Dec 3. Sunjay Kapur’s children with Karisma have already sought an interim injunction to restrain Priya from alienating them from their father’s assets, while questioning the authenticity of the will.
