KOLKATA: Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik has filed a lawsuit against the world chess federation (FIDE) in a Swiss civil court after FIDE’s ethics and disciplinary commission opened proceedings against him.In a post on X, Kramnik said he personally delivered the opening documents by dropping them into the mailbox at FIDE’s headquarters in Lausanne.
He did not disclose the substance of the suit or what relief he is seeking. “I will provide further details in due course as the proceedings advance,” he wrote.Notably, Kramnik has not approached the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which usually hears disputes in sport.Relations between Kramnik and FIDE have deteriorated since the death of American GM Daniel Naroditsky in October.Kramnik had repeatedly alleged computer-assisted cheating in online events involving Naroditsky and GM David Navara, but did not present evidence publicly.Naroditsky spoke in his final stream about the psychological strain caused by the allegations.His death triggered anger in the chess world.
