Sardesai slams Margao master plan ’41 | Goa News

Margao: Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday criticised the draft Margao master plan 2041, describing it as a hastily prepared blueprint favouring builders over farmers.“The master plan targets the agricultural fields of Fatorda and Margao, which farmers zealously protected for generations,” Sardesai said. He suggested the plan aimed to facilitate construction on fertile fields, benefiting certain stakeholders. He acknowledged positives like urban mobility and heritage conservation, and criticised that neither the consultant nor govt outlined funding sources for these proposals. He said the plan was strategically timed for the 2026 municipal elections. “In the 2026 civic polls, people will choose between a people-centric plan and the current master plan,” he said. The Margao Municipal Council will present the draft master plan 2041 on June 19. Meanwhile, the Fatorda MLA also expressed concern over the private ownership of Dambabachi Tali, a pond opposite “Dambab Ling” in Fatorda, and urged the govt to restore public access.
