Quentin Lake, the Rams’ safety, made a huge impact last season, solidifying his role as a key defensive player. While some questioned whether the Rams’ defense could hold up, Lake stepped up when it mattered most. In just his third year, the former sixth-round pick went beyond expectations, becoming a leader both on and off the field.
Lake had a breakout 2024 season, setting career highs across the board. He recorded 111 total tackles, 73 solo tackles, two sacks, and five passes defended, showcasing his versatility. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula utilized him in multiple roles, and Lake’s ability to adapt helped anchor a young Rams defense. His presence provided much-needed stability in crucial moments.
His leadership skills didn’t go unnoticed, as his teammates voted him a team captain—an honor he deeply appreciated. “For them to recognize me as a captain on the team, it was such a blessing,” Lake said. “But credit to them for believing in me, respecting me, and seeing me as such a high-value player.”
Beyond his ability to make plays, Lake also took over defensive communication responsibilities after linebacker Troy Reeder’s injury. Typically, the “green dot” responsibility is given to a linebacker, but Lake’s football knowledge and leadership made him the ideal choice. “I love it, being out there, being able to communicate, putting guys in position to make plays,” he said.
Playing every defensive snap in 2024, Lake showcased his durability and work ethic. “That really was one of my goals coming into this year, to be on the field no matter what,” he said. “The workload for me is really just making sure that my body’s ready by game time.”
Football runs in Lake’s blood. With his father, former NFL defensive back Carnell Lake, as his mentor, he has developed a sharp football IQ and a strong work ethic. Now, alongside rising star Jared Verse, he’s set to be a key leader in the Rams’ defense as they push for greater success in 2025.
Quentin Lake’s adaptability and leadership make him a cornerstone of the Rams’ defense. With another season ahead, he’s on track to elevate his game and help the Rams dominate in 2025.
