Qualcomm launches X85 5G modem at MWC 2025

Qualcomm has announced its latest breakthrough in 5G connectivity: the Qualcomm X85 5G Modem-RF. This eighth-generation 5G modem-to-antenna solution is designed to power the next wave of connected experiences, from lightning-fast downloads and seamless streaming to enhanced AI applications and extended battery life.
The X85 boasts industry-leading 5G Advanced capabilities, promising unparalleled speeds and reliability for premium Android smartphones. It also supports a wide range of devices, including PCs, fixed wireless access points, automotive, XR, and more.
“Qualcomm X85, the world’s most advanced modem-to-antenna system, is set to provide the best 5G experiences. For smartphones, it enables levels of speeds, power-efficiency and reliability that will only be available on premium Android devices,” said Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager, technology planning and edge solutions, Qualcomm Technologies.
This fourth-generation AI-powered 5G connectivity system leverages on-device AI to optimise performance and user experiences, the company said, adding that the X85 delivers:
Faster speeds: Enabling multi-gigabit downloads and uploads for seamless streaming and content sharing.
Improved network reliability: Ensuring consistent connectivity even in congested areas.
Extended battery life: Maximising power efficiency for longer device usage.
Enhanced location accuracy: Improving location-based services and applications.
Qualcomm is collaborating with industry partners, including carriers and infrastructure vendors, to accelerate the commercialisation of the X85’s capabilities.
In addition to the X85, Qualcomm also announced the X82 5G Modem-RF, designed for mainstream adoption of mobile broadband applications. Both the X85 and X82 are currently being sampled by customers and are expected to appear in commercial devices in the second half of 2025.
