PUNE: In a bid to address growing urban challenges and persistent traffic congestion in the Hinjewadi-Maan-Marunji belt, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated the clearing of encroachments along key internal roads. On Thursday, PMRDA began the process of reopening the long-blocked Hinjewadi Phase 2 road between Wipro Circle and Marunji’s Laxmi Chowk — a crucial corridor for daily commuters and IT employees, stated officials. The action was carried out after PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Yogesh Mhase conducted a meeting with all stakeholders including MLAs. “The initiative comes after the issuance of notices to those responsible for obstructing natural water flow in streams and drains in the area, including along the metro route,”stated officials from PMRDA.Joint teams from PMRDA and associated departments took part in the operation, aimed at restoring connectivity on the road that had remained inaccessible for several years due to encroachments, the officials told TOI. During the drive, several local business offices voluntarily removed unauthorised structures allowing the road to be reopened for vehicular movementThe revived route is expected to significantly reduce congestion for both local residents and employees in Hinjewadi’s IT parks. “This stretch plays a key role in local traffic dispersal. Its reopening is a major step towards long-term decongestion and better urban management,” a resident from the area told TOI. However they are also hoping for permanent solutions for the authority to address infra issues for the entire area. The authority confirmed that work on restoring and developing the road is now underway, and further steps will be taken to prevent future encroachments.
