BHOPAL: A 27-year-old woman, who was expecting twins, was allegedly beaten to death by her live-in partner in MP’s Betul district for bartering 750 grams of wheat to buy chocolates for her three children.The incident took place in Aarul village, around 220km south of Bhopal on Sunday afternoon.The victim, 27-year-old Basanti Uike, lived on a farm with the accused, Sonu Uike, 27. She had three children from her husband but was separated and was living-in with Sonu for the past eight months, say police. Both of them worked as farm labourers and she was three months pregnant. “On Sunday, Basanti’s father was at home when the couple had a quarrel. He informed police, and she was rushed to hospital where she died. During questioning, he claimed that he thrashed Basanti because she sold 750g wheat to buy liquor and got drunk, said Dhurvey. “However, her kin told villagers that she had sold the wheat to buy chocolates for her kids. Whatever the reason, she was killed for selling only 750 grams of wheat. During the autopsy, we learnt that she was pregnant with twins,” she added.
