Ponda: A stray dog attacked a 5-year-old girl outside an anganwadi at Haveli Curti, Ponda, on Thursday afternoon.This incident came within two days after a 14-year-old school girl was allegedly attacked by a stray dog at Antruz Nagar, Curti-Ponda on Tuesday afternoon.Sources said that the girl was playing outside the anganwadi when three dogs cornered her and one of them attacked then her.Following the bite, she was administered First Aid and vaccinated for rabies at the Ponda sub-district hospital.A Curti-Ponda resident from an animal welfare group has attributed the reason for the increasing stray dog population to delayed payments of grants to local civic bodies. “Unless the civic bodies get grants, it cannot enact any MoU with Animals Welfare NGOs for sterilisation,” he said.
