Pat McAfee set to return to in-ring action against Gunther at WWE Backlash 2025

Pat McAfee will be making his return to a WWE ring for a match against Gunther at WWE’s next PLE, Backlash.
Pat McAfee had a rough week right after the end of the WrestleMania season. He was on the receiving end of a huge beatdown by Gunther. The Ring General berated Michael Cole for his comments while calling the action of his match against Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41. As he was about to inflict damage on Cole, McAfee came to his aid and pushed Gunther.
However, the Ring General retaliated by locking McAfee in the sleeper hold, which led to him receiving medical attention right after. McAfee was given the opportunity to reflect on the events of last week. In doing so, he received an offer to get his hands on Gunther, which he accepted without any hesitation.

Pat McAfee will return to in-ring action after three years in WWE

Towards the final hour of Monday Night RAW taking place this week at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Pat McAfee got up from his commentary chair to address Gunther’s attack. He claimed that Gunther’s attack reminded him of who he really was. He then spoke about Michael Cole saying that he had been with him since day one and McAfee had no action but to protect him from the wrath of The Ring General last week.
The General Manager in charge of the night, Nick Aldis, came out to listen to him. McAfee claimed that he was not happy about Gunther’s suspension. Aldis revealed that he had spoken with RAW GM Adam Pearce about it and had decided to lift the suspension while also offering McAfee a unique offer. Aldis offered the former NFL punter a match against Gunther at WWE’s upcoming PLE, Backlash, taking place in St.Louis, Missouri.
Without even a second thought, Pat McAfee was fired up and accepted the match. The last time he competed in a WWE ring was three years ago at WrestleMania 38 against Austin Theory. However, standing in his way this time is one of the most dominant stars on the roster today. So it will be exciting to see Pat McAfee’s return to the ring against the Ring General, Gunther.
