Parched Taleigao may get water this weekend | Goa News

Panaji: Water supply to parts of Taleigao, disrupted for over 40 days due to contamination, may be restored this weekend, said the PWD.“We have replaced the pipeline and are in the process of shifting the water connections,” a PWD official said. “We are testing the water connection line on Friday, after which parts of Taleigao will get the water.”TOI reported on May 3 that residents complained of blackish water with a stench. The PWD confirmed the presence of E. coli bacteria, after which they completely shut down the water supply to two wards — Vodlem Bhat and Borbhat. “The panchayat and the PWD have been working overtime to ensure that the water to these wards is restored at the earliest,” a panchayat member said.He said that while the gap is being bridged by supplying water through PWD tankers, there is a shortage of water tankers. “Tankers make 15-20 trips per day. However, over 30 trips are required per day. We are taking a daily report from the PWD to ensure that the residents’ needs are met,” the panchayat member said.TOI had reported that PWD officials maintained there are no leaks in the main water pipeline. The contamination, they believe, stems from service connections. They blamed overflowing soak pits and alleged rampant sewage discharge by households and housing societies into stormwater drains. For over a month, the PWD has been digging pits every 100m to determine the source of contamination.
