NEET aspirant hangs self in Kota hostel room; suicide note says family, exam not to blame

KOTA: An 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Bihar died by suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on Tuesday morning, police said.
According to police, a suicide note recovered from the student’s room stated that neither his family nor his NEET-UG preparation was responsible for his decision to take the extreme step.
Originally from Chapra, Bihar, the young man had been studying at a Kota coaching institute for approximately one year, residing in the Landmark City area, stated circle inspector Arvind Bhardwaj of Kunhadi police station.
Prior to his death, the student sent a message to his sister via WhatsApp, who subsequently contacted the hostel caretaker requesting a welfare check on her brother, Bhardwaj reported.
When the caretaker received no response after knocking, he alerted authorities. Police arrived and forced entry into the room, where they discovered the deceased student, according to the circle inspector.
Despite the presence of an anti-suicide device on the ceiling fan, the student utilised an iron hook positioned above the device to carry out the act, officials noted.
The recovered suicide note explicitly stated that neither the student’s family nor his NEET studies were responsible. However, no specific reason was provided, Bhardwaj indicated.
The note included a request to withhold the student’s name, family information, and photographs from media outlets, he added.
Authorities continue to investigate the underlying cause of this incident, according to Bhardwaj.
The body remains at MBS Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination, which will proceed once family members arrive, the circle inspector confirmed.
This incident marks the eleventh student suicide in Kota, India’s primary coaching centre hub, during this year, compared to seventeen cases recorded last year.
