'MMC': PM Modi mocks Congress after NDA's Bihar win; calls it 'Muslim League, Maowadi' party

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a sharp dig at the Congress, remarking that the party had turned into “MMC” — the “Muslim League Maowadi Congress.”He made the comment during his victory address at the BJP headquarters after the Bihar assembly election results were declared. The BJP-led NDA registered a sweeping win over the Mahagathbandhan, of which the Congress is a key constituent.“I say this with full seriousness — the Congress has now become the Muslim League Maowadi Congress, or MMC,” the prime minister said, adding that “internal divisions” would soon lead to a “split” within the party.“A faction within the Congress is uncomfortable with the party’s negative politics. Anger is brewing against the ‘Naamdaar’ (a reference to Rahul Gandhi) for the path he is taking the Congress on. Therefore, I fear that there could be another major split in the Congress,” PM Modi added.PM Modi further remarked that even the Congress’s allies have begun to realise that its “negative politics” is damaging them as well.“Earlier as well, from this very stage, I had cautioned Congress’ allies that it is a ‘liability’ — a parasite that tries to absorb its partners’ vote bank for its own gain. That is why they should remain vigilant,” he stated. In the Bihar assembly elections held on November 6 and 11, the BJP and its NDA allies swept more than 200 of the state’s 243 constituencies. The saffron party is now poised to emerge as the single largest party in Bihar for the first time.In sharp contrast, the Congress and its Mahagathbandhan partners struggled to cross even the 50-seat mark. As counting neared completion, the Congress had not won a single seat and was leading in only six constituencies.
