Man sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering sister-in-law in Rajkot | Rajkot News

RAJKOT: A man was convicted of killing his sister-in-law and sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Rajkot. Additional Sessions Judge S V Sharma found Chaman Sardhara guilty of murder after completing the hearing and also imposed a fine of Rs 11,500 in the order dated March 24. Sardhara was in the business of manufacturing steel railings.
According to the prosecution’s case, the victim, Bharti Sardhara, was walking on the road in the Bhaktinagar area of Rajkot with two other women on October 7, 2019. She was intercepted by the accused near Devpara Society on a bike. The victim got frightened, but the accused came near her and stabbed her to death.
The victim’s husband registered a complaint with Bhaktinagar police station against his brother, stating that there was a property dispute in the family regarding a house owned by their mother. The accused picked fights regarding this inheritance property several times in the past, and keeping those grudges, he attacked his sister-in-law.
The prosecution, in order to prove its case, produced 14 witnesses and 32 documentary pieces of evidence. The doctor, in his statement, informed the court that the victim died of excessive bleeding due to multiple injuries.
Additional Public Prosecutor Smita Atri said, “After the hearing and examining the evidence, the court convicted the accused under IPC sections 302, 342, and GP Act section 135 (1). During the hearing on the sentence, we argued that the accused committed the heinous crime by murdering his sister-in-law, and we urged the court to award the maximum punishment under the law.”
