Maharashtra: Heavy rains hit Solapur & Satara districts; crop losses, cattle stranded
Heavy rains lashed Solapur and Satara districts, causing significant crop damage, particularly to soyabean and banana crop

KOLHAPUR: Several areas in Solapur and Satara districts were battered by heavy rains, causing crop losses—mainly soyabean and banana—overflowing channels, and the destruction of fodder crops. Cattle were stranded in their sheds. Rainfall during the 24 hours up to 8:00 am on Monday ranged from 24 mm to as high as 174 mm. Mahisgaon in Madha tehsil of Solapur district received 174 mm of rain in this period, while the tehsil recorded an average of 112 mm. Other areas included Ropale Khurd with 142 mm, Kurduwadi 131 mm, Darfal 125 mm, and Madha 120 mm. Agalgaon recorded 84 mm and Vairag 78 mm. Barshi town in Solapur district received around 99 mm of rain.

In Satara, Mhaswad recorded the highest rainfall of 74 mm, while Dahiwadi and Gondawale received 25 mm each. In Khatav tehsil, the Yeralawadi reservoir is overflowing, and the normally dry Yerala river continues to remain in flood. In Waghdari, Solapur district, farmers rescued goats stranded on the other side of an overflowing channel by forming a human chain. Authorities said that the destruction of fodder crops will make it challenging to save the cattle.
