HASSAN: A 33-year-old woman allegedly attempted to kill her family members, including her children, by poisoning them to maintain an illicit relationship. Chaitra, from Keraluru in Belur taluk, allegedly attempted to poison her husband, children, and in-laws as they were against her illicit relationship, police said.Mohammad Sujeetha, superintendent of police, said Chaitra married Gajendra eleven years ago, and the couple has two sons. However, for the past three years, Chaitra frequently argued with her husband over trivial matters and developed an illicit relationship with another man. Gajendra learned about the matter and informed Chaitra’s parents. After mediation, the couple reconciled for a while.But Chaitra developed another illicit relationship with Shivu, a villager. Fearing that her husband, children, and in-laws might become obstacles to her relationship, Chaitra allegedly planned to eliminate them all. With Shivu’s assistance, she allegedly mixed poison into their food, police said. When the family members developed health issues, the poisoning attempt came to light, and her husband Gajendra filed a complaint at Belur police station.Belur police said they have arrested Chaitra and Shivu.
