Minister Madhu Bangarappa announces free re-exams for students, addresses zero pass percentage

BENGALURU: The examination process is not yet complete. There will be two additional opportunities for students to take the exams, and these will be provided free of charge. Minister of School Education and Literacy, Madhu Bangarappa, stated on Tuesday that students, regardless of whether they have passed or not, will be allowed to retake the exams. He further mentioned that the Common Entrance Test (CET) will consider the third examination as well.
He also pointed out that in the past, re-examinations were charged a fee ranging from Rs 270 to Rs 400. However, for this year, there will be no fees for the second and third exams, and students can write these exams without any cost.
Additionally, the minister emphasized that the best teachers would be identified to provide coaching and support to students aiming to improve their results.
Regarding improvements in exam outcomes, the Chief Minister was briefed in the presence of the Principal Secretary (PS) and Additional Chief Secretary (ACS). The Chief Minister also stated that no grace marks will be given.
Over 50 percent of students, totaling 3,78,625, who took the exams received either a distinction or first-class marks.
Zero Pass Percentage in Over 120 Colleges
A total of 123 colleges in the state reported a zero percent pass rate. Of these, 90 were unaided colleges, 20 were aided colleges, 8 were government schools, and 5 were KREIS PU Colleges.
The minister acknowledged the performance gap and stated that the issue of zero pass percentages has been ongoing for years. “We have instructed the Joint Director and Area Directors to visit schools and colleges to identify the underlying issues,” he added.
