Rourkela: Former Supreme Court judge Justice A K Patnaik, who is oversight authority for Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation, concluded a five-day tour of Sundargarh district on Friday, assessing the progress of OMBADC-funded development projects.During his visit, Justice Patnaik reviewed initiatives in drinking water, health, education, livelihood and water conservation sectors. He interacted with beneficiaries at model anganwadi centres, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya in Ujalpur, and mushroom cultivation units in Phuldhuri village. At the district headquarters hospital, he inspected OMBADC-supported infrastructure including GNM training halls and casualty blocks.In Rourkela sub-division, he visited Kurta High School, a crèche centre, spawn production units and the mega piped water supply project covering 201 villages. At ITI Rourkela, he lauded the electric mobility lab and noted that 70% of trained candidates had secured placements.Justice Patnaik expressed satisfaction over completed health facilities at S Bolang community health centre, but flagged 18 doctor vacancies and advised construction of D-type quarters to improve retention.At a review meeting, he acknowledged visible community-level impact but stressed the need for stronger efforts in livelihood and skill development. “I genuinely feel that OMBADC funds have been very good and impactful investment for the people of Sundargarh,” he said.
