Koraput: Vigilance sleuths arrested a junior engineer of Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) and his associate for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a brick kiln owner for providing an electricity connection to his unit in Malkangiri district on Tuesday.The accused have been identified as Pradesh Prasad Nayak, junior engineer, TPSODL, Malkangiri, and Bhanjakishor Swain, a private individual. They were caught red-handed near the main gate of TPSODL office while taking the bribe from the brick factory owner, officials said.According to a vigilance release, the complainant had approached the authorities after Nayak, with the help of Swain, allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 in lieu of facilitating the power connection to the brick manufacturing unit. Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid and both were caught while accepting the money.“The entire tainted bribe amount of Rs 20,000 has been recovered and seized from the accused,” it reads. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Nayak from a disproportionate assets angle.
