Jammu hit-and-run: Youth reverses Thar to hit elderly man after scooty collision; FIR filed

NEW DELHI: A youth in Jammu city has been booked by police for hitting an elderly man after a collision between the victim’s scooty and the accused’s Mahindra Thar on Sunday at 1.30 pm. The accused deliberately reversed his vehicle to hit the victim again near Allora Textiles, causing serious injuries.CCTV footage revealed the accused was driving recklessly from Gandhi Nagar towards Greenbelt Park when the elderly man’s scooty collided with the Thar. After the initial collision, the driver intentionally reversed and struck the victim again.Bystanders rushed the injured elderly man to GMC Hospital Jammu while the Thar driver fled the scene.Police have filed an FIR under sections 281, 109, and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Gandhi Nagar police station and seized the vehicle. While the vehicle’s owner has been detained, the driver remains at large.“The Thar was being driven by Manan Anand, son of Rajinder Anand of Nanak Nagar,” said Superintendent of Police Ajay Sharma.“The injured person was taken to GMC Hospital Jammu by passers-by, while the Thar driver fled the scene,” the police spokesperson said.The video of the incident has circulated on social media, with multiple accounts reporting it. Police officials believe the driver may have left Jammu and are actively working to locate him.
