In an interesting turn of events, one of baseball’s greatest of all time, Ken Griffey Jr., who has also been awarded at least 13 All-Stars, has found something new and exciting for this week. No, he will not be playing golf; rather, he will be taking photographs.
A new project for Ken Griffey Jr
Ken Griffey Jr. has taken up a new project this week. While Griffey has donned many hats during his lifetime, that of playing baseball and golf, but this time, he’s not on the baseball field, and rather, he will be heading to the famous golf tournament, the Masters.
Griffey is not going there to play golf. He’ll be there as a photographer. Griffey was able to secure a media pass and will be working for Masters.com. He will be expected to take photos with his camera. Griffey has shown how much he loves photography, and for his fans? They are super excited to see his talent off the field now.
Griffey said that it’s a new opportunity for him. He said:
“I am not going to go to a Masters until I play it and now I have the opportunity to shoot it. It’s been unbelievable and wild.”
Ken Griffey Jr’s interest in photography
For more than two decades, Ken Griffey Jr. had been a massive name in the baseball field. He retired in 2010. It was in 2015 when he found his love for photography. He has been credentialed to shoot MLB, MLS, NFL and IndyCar events.
Griffey talked about how interesting it was to shoot sports events. He said:
“It was actually the only way I could see my kids. I understand what he felt like coming to watch me play. My daughter literally stopped dribbling a basketball and just looked at me when she was five. I was like okay, I’ve got to pay more attention to what’s going on. I figured no one’s messing with the photographer, well let me pick it up, let me try it.”

But, interestingly, Ken Griffey Jr. isn’t the only one who found love in photography, and has been taking it seriously. Even pitcher and Hall of Famer Randy Johnson had sought advice from Griffey on what he could do to get back into the field. Johnson spoke about the conversation and said:
“He’s called me a few times, and I think what initially got him involved in photography was that his kids are very athletic. He wanted to capture moments of his kids.”
