ISPs to get timely permits, can shift cables underground: CM | Goa News

Panaji: After internet connectivity was disrupted in the state on Tuesday due to electricity department cutting cables of internet service providers (ISPs) making use of power department infrastructure, chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday that state govt is going for underground cabling. He said the ISPs can also come onboard. He said that both sides — the ISPs as well as power department officials led by Kashinath Shetye — have erred.

“The matter is in the high court. According to central govt’s new policy, permissions have to be issued to them at a fee. The chief secretary has already held a meeting in this regard. Timely arrangements will be made to issue permissions to them officially after getting them to pay a fee. We are going for underground cabling, under which private operators can come onboard,” said the CM.
Sawant said that present work of restoring internet connectivity has been taken up and the ISPs will soon restore connectivity to consumers in the state.
Earlier, he had a meeting with the ISPs.
