NEW DELHI: India’s women’s hockey team on Friday suffered a 0-4 defeat against Germany in the FIH Pro League match in Bhubaneswar.
Germany dominated the game throughout with Amelie Wortmann scoring in the third minute, followed by Sophia Schwabe’s goals in the 18th and 47th minutes.
Johanne Hachenberg added the final goal through a penalty corner in the 59th minute.
The German team earned 10 penalty corners compared to India’s two, demonstrating their attacking superiority.
Wortmann opened the scoring early through a goalmouth scramble.
Germany continued their offensive pressure, earning multiple penalty corners in quick succession, though India’s defense held firm initially.
The Germans doubled their advantage in the 18th minute with a well-executed field goal.
After halftime, India earned a penalty corner, but Deepika’s attempt lacked power to challenge the German goalkeeper.
India’s second penalty corner opportunity came in the 39th minute, but Udita’s shot was blocked by German defenders.
Schwabe extended Germany’s lead with a powerful reverse hit in the fourth quarter. Despite India’s subsequent attacking efforts, they couldn’t find the finishing touch.
Germany sealed their victory when Hachenberg successfully converted a penalty corner just before the final whistle.
The teams will face each other again at the same venue on Saturday.
In the current FIH Pro League standings, India hold the seventh position with six points from four matches, while Germany sits one place higher with seven points from six games.
