The Indian Cricket’s Famous ‘Panauti’

In June 2024, during the peak of ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Prafull Billore shared a selfie with Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav. The following day, Yadav managed to score only 6 runs in a T20 match against Bangladesh. This coincidence quickly became a widespread joke on social media, with many jesting that Billore’s selfie brought misfortune (“Panauti”) to the cricket team. The image rapidly went viral, propelling Billore into internet fame overnight.
Embracing the humor, fans began creating photoshopped images of Billore alongside various South African players in an attempt to “reverse-jinx” the opposition. The internet buzzed with laughter as he shared amusing pictures with English cricket stars like Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. This lighthearted banter gained significant attention following India’s impressive 68-run victory over England in the semi-finals, where Billore’s playful antics targeting the English team were widely acknowledged.
