NEW DELHI: A video shared by a tourist on his Instagram account may offer crucial visual evidence in the shocking murder of Indore man Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. The video, accidentally recorded by traveler Dev Singh on May 23, shows Raja and his wife Sonam walking up the trail near the famous double-decker living root bridge in Nongriat — the day Raja is believed to have been murdered.Singh, who posted the video on July 15, wrote that he had only discovered the footage while reviewing clips from his trip to Meghalaya. “It was around 9.45 in the morning. We were heading down when the couple was climbing up after staying overnight in Nongriat village. I think this was the last recording of them together,” Singh wrote. He added that Sonam was wearing a white shirt — the same one later found near Raja’s body.Singh expressed grief as he watched Raja in the clip: “He looked normal, completely unaware of what lay ahead.” He also mentioned having another video showing three more people from Indore, who began their trek 20 minutes before Raja and Sonam and were later picked up by police.Singh has appealed for the video to be forwarded to the Meghalaya Police and requested that it not be used without permission.The case so farRaja and Sonam got married on May 11 and travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20. On May 23, Raja went missing in the East Khasi Hills district. His body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in Sohra (also known as Cherrapunjee).The investigation soon led to Raja’s wife Sonam, who was detained from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, along with four others — her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three suspected contract killers: Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi.According to the Meghalaya Police, the murder conspiracy was planned in Indore earlier this year, even before the wedding. The police claim Raj Kushwaha was the mastermind, and Sonam was a willing accomplice. The hired attackers were reportedly close friends — one even a cousin of Kushwaha — and not professional killers. Police say they were paid Rs 50,000 to carry out the plan and cover travel expenses.The investigation suggests that Raja’s murder was premeditated, with Sonam playing a key role in ensuring he was isolated and vulnerable during the trip. After the crime, she surfaced in Ghazipur and surrendered on June 9.The emergence of this new video may help Meghalaya Police further corroborate the timeline of events and tighten the case against the accused.
