In a heartbreaking turn of events, a wedding in Khagaria was marred by tragedy when 24-year-old Mohammad Irshad was struck down by celebratory gunfire moments after the Nikah. As joyous laughter filled the air during the sharing of dates, this festive atmosphere was shattered. Despite immediate medical assistance, Irshad tragically passed away while being rushed to the hospital.

Patna: In a tragic twist that silenced an entire wedding gathering, a 24-year-old groom was shot in a celebratory firing during a wedding ceremony in Khagaria district late Saturday night.Police said the incident took place when a man first fired in the air and then accidentally another bullet hit the groom, Mohammad Irshad (24), in the neck at Kutubpur village under Mufassil police station area of Khagaria district.Irshad was rushed to the sadar hospital and from there he was referred to Begusarai for better treatment, but he died on the way.The groom’s brother, Mohammad Shamshad, alleged that the accused fired a shot in the air first and, despite being asked to stop, he loaded another bullet and fired again, which hit the groom.The accused is currently absconding.Khagaria SP Rakesh Kumar said, “Upon receiving information about the incident, police from Mufassil police station led by Sadar SDPO-1 Mukul Ranjan inspected the incident site. A forensic team collected evidence from there. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem at Begusarai Sadar Hospital. A case has been registered in the matter and investigation is underway.”Relatives of the groom said in Muslim society there is a ritual of distributing dates after wedding (nikah). During the distribution of dates, the bullet was fired which hit Irshad. “No one either from the groom or bride side disclosed who fired the gunshot that killed Irshad. The identity of the person will be known once the situation normalises. We are scanning the video footage of the wedding ceremony to identify the culprits involved in the celebratory firing,” the SP added.
