Govt’s language training initiative to aid youth employment in Japan

Guwahati: In a move to transform the state’s youth into competitive professionals who caters to global needs, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the CM’s Foreign Languages Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT) at an event held at the North East Skill Centre on Sunday.There was an understanding between the govts of Japan and India to facilitate the placement of five lakh Indian youth in Japan by 2030. From this, Assam govt was assured that 50,000 candidates from the state would participate in the initiative, with the potential to increase the number to one lakh.Under the scheme, in Assam, 180 candidates will receive Japanese language training (JFT Basic/JLPT N4) in the first batch through three international partners — ASEAN-ONE Co. Ltd, Jaceex Ventures LLP, and Meiko Career Partners Co. Ltd.The initiative aims to equip Assam’s youth with foreign language and workplace readiness skills to boost their employability in global sectors like construction, nursing care, and food services.He noted that the first phase of CM-FLIGHT will focus on Japan as a primary destination, acknowledging the country’s demand for skilled foreign workers under its Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa program.To make the programme more accessible, Rs 1,00,000 per candidate will be provided to training and implementation partners to cover the cost of instruction, orientation, and documentation. Additionally, Rs 50,000 per candidate will be offered as post-placement assistance to support relocation costs, visa processing, and initial settlement abroad.CM said speaker of house of representatives of Japan, Fukushiro Nukaga, agreed to reduce the candidate training fees from INR 3.6 lakh to INR 1.8 lakh. With govt support, the effective fee for candidates would be approximately Rs. 30,000, making it more affordable.
