Goa Human Rights Commission Demands Inquiry into Custodial Death of Bengal Worker | Goa News
Panaji: The Goa State Human Rights Commission called for an inquiry into the custodial/institutional death of a 36-year-old worker, Debanand Sana, from West Bengal, and issued notice to the South Goa magistrate and the Margao SP.The commission called on the magistrate and the SP to inquire into the matter and submit reports by March 10. It stated that it was taking suo motu cognisance of the case “to rule out any foul play in the death” of Sana late last month. Sana breathed his last in ward number 146 of the GMC, where he was admitted through the Vasco police station.His family alleged he was beaten to death after being taken into custody — reportedly on suspicion of theft — and demanded an immediate probe against jail and police officials. They claimed he worked as a mason in Vasco. They said they were informed he was admitted to IPHB and then shifted to the GMC, where he died.
