Fire partially destroys Siolim home, loss of Rs 4L estimated

Panaji: The Shirodkar family living at Siolim’s Dando Waddo suffered a major setback after their house caught fire on Saturday. The fire that raced through the home is estimated to have caused a loss of Rs 4 lakh.
The Mapusa fire station received a call about the fire at 10.07am. Meanwhile, concerned villagers and neighbours attempted to put out the fire by pumping water from a nearby well.
Locals said a widow was living in the house with her two daughters. Nobody was injured in the fire, but the family was devastated by the loss of their belongings.
Firefighters said that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
A significant part of the tiled roof of the home was burnt. The fire also burnt the walls, furniture, kitchen appliances, and some personal belongings. Locals and firefighters managed to salvage clothes, some documents, a cupboard full of personal items, and other belongings.
The Siolim panchayat and local MLA Delilah Lobo have offered to repair the home while also seeking compensation from state govt through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
