THANE: As many as eight shanties suffered extensive damage following a freak fire that triggered a mini LPG cylinder explosion in the transit camp provided to workers of an under-construction building site at Kasarwadavli, Ghodbunder Road, on Thursday evening.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which was reported around 5 pm. Fellow workers and local firemen rushed to the spot and doused the blaze before it could spread.
As a precautionary measure, neighbouring shanties were evacuated, and all domestic gas cylinders stored inside were moved out.
The actual cause of the fire will be investigated, informed officials.
