Farmers seek clarity on eastern bypass road project in Coimbatore district | Coimbatore News
COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam Coimbatore district president Su Palanisamy on Tuesday urged the district administration to clarify whether the state govt is going to implement the eastern bypass road project. He said there is uncertainty about it.Speaking to reporters here, Palanisamy said while the district administration claims that no land was being acquired for the project, measurement activities had begun for the proposed road. He expressed faith in the chief minister’s assurance that no project would be implemented without consulting farmers. With the upcoming assembly elections, he emphasised that promises made to farmers should not turn into empty words. The govt should ensure genuine support for the farming community; otherwise, farmers will express their dissatisfaction during the elections, he added.“Crores of rupees are being allocated for the protection of the Noyyal river, but it is unclear where the money is going. Due to encroachments, the river is shrinking. The state govt should form a committee comprising an IAS officer and farmers to protect the Noyyal river,” he said.
